What is Simparica?
Simparica is indicated for the monthly treatment and prevention of fleas (Ctenocephalides sp.), the control of paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus), Brown Dog Tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) and Bush ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis), the treatment and control of ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), demodex mites (Demodex canis) and sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) in dogs.
What is the active ingredient in Simparica and how does it work?
Simparica contains sarolaner. Sarolaner is a parasite neurotoxin and works by interfering with the transmission of impulses along the parasites' nervous system. This causes paralysis of the parasite and its ultimate death.
How often is Simparica used?
To be effective against fleas and ticks, Simparica is given orally once a month to dogs.
From what age can Simparica be used?
Simparica is safe to use in puppies from 8 weeks of age and that are over 1.3kgs in bodyweight.
How quickly does Simparica work?
Simparica kills fleas within 3 hours of administration, with 100% effectiveness against adult fleas within 8 hours. Simparica maintains 100% effectiveness against weely infestations for 35 days.
Is Simparica water fast?
Because Simparica is an oral medication it is not affected by swimming, bathing or shampooing before or after administration.
Does Simparica need to be given with food?
Simparica does not need to be given with food. Pet owners can choose to give the chew at any time that suits them - with or without a meal.
Can I use Simparica all year-round?
Fleas and in some areas ticks, are a year-round problem and so Simparica should be administered every 4 weeks throughout the year.
Can Simparica be used on pregnant or lactating animals?
The safe use of Simparica in breeding males and females has not been evaluated.
Can Simparica be used in cats?
No. Simparica is only registered for use in dogs. It should not be given to cats.
