What does Sentinel Spectrum do?

Sentinel Spectrum provides protection against heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis), roundworm (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), whipworm (Trchuris vulpis), hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense) and tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus, Taenia pisiformis and Dipylidium caninum) in dogs. It aids in the control of the adult hookworm (Uncinaria stenocephala). It also so provides long term protection control of flea (Ctenocephalides felis) infestations.

What are the active ingredients in Sentinel Spectrum and how do they work?

Sentinel Spectrum contains both milbemycin, praziquantel and lufenuron. Both milbemycin and praziquantel act on the worms nervous system and affect the way nerve impulses pass along it. This results in the paralysis of the parasite and ultimately its death. Lufernuron inhibits the development of flea eggs and larvae by interfering with thesynthesis of chitin, the chemical that makes up th insects' exoskeleton.

How quickly does Sentinel Spectrum work?

Sentinel Spectrum starts acting as soon as it is swallowed, absorbed and enters the dog's circulation.

Does Sentinel Spectrum need to be given with food?

Sentinel Spectrum should be given with a full meal. Most dogs will take the tasty chew from your hand but if this is not the case then it can be hidden in the food.

Can Sentinel Spectrum be used in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs?

Yes. Sentinel Spectrum is approved for the use in breeding, pregnant and lactating bitches and breeding males. In addition it is also safe to use in collies sensitive to ivermectin.

Can I switch from another heartworm medication to Sentinel Spectrum?

Yes. This is an easy process as you just continue with Interceptor Spectrum on your normal monthly regime.

Precautions

In safety studies conducted with Sentinel Spectrum some mild and transient adverse reactions were observd following dosing. These reactions included redeuced activity, increased salivation, vomiting, ataxia and tremors.

Some mild, transient shock-like reactions have occurred when treating heartworm positive dogs carrying a high number of microfilariae at the time of first treatment with milbemycin oxime. It is therefore recommended to have your dog tested for heartworm prior to starting on Sentinel Spectrum.
