What is Revolution?
In dogs and puppies Revolution is indicated for the treatment, control and prevention of fleas (Ctenocephalides sp.); the prevention of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis); the treatment and control of ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei), and lice (Trichodectes canis, Linognathus setosus).
What is the active ingredient in Revolution and how does it work?
Revolution contains selamectin. Selemectin is parasite neurotoxin and works by interfering with the transmission of impulses along the parasites' nervous system. This causes paralysis of the parasite and its ultimate death.
How often is Revolution applied?
To break the flea life cycle Revolution is applied directly to the skin every 4 weeks. By doing this Revolution ensures that fleas that jump onto your pet will stop feeding, become paralysed and die. In addition Revolution also kills flea larvae in the environment and so prevents reinfestation. To prevent heartworm infection Revolution should also be applied monthly.
From what age can Revolution be used?
Revolution is safe to use in puppies from 6 weeks of age.
Is Revolution water fast?
Revolution remains effective following shampooing, bathing and swimming because the active ingredient is absorbed through the skin into the dog's bloodstream. Bathing your pet is not required prior to applying Revolution however your pet should have a wet coat or be allowed to swim or be shampooed within 2 hours after treatment.
Can I use Revolution all year-round?
Fleas and heartworm are a year-round problem and so Revolution should be applied every 4 weeks throughout the year.
Can Revolution be used on pregnant or lactating animals?
No adverse effects were observed when Revolution was applied to pregnant and lactating females and breeding male dogs.
Can Revolution for dogs be used on cats?
No. Revolution for dogs contains different concentrations of the active ingredient compared to Revolution for cats. For this reason Revolution for dogs should NOT be applied to cats.
Do I need to have my dog tested for heartworm disease before starting on Revolution?
While there is no absolute requirement for a heartworm test before commencing treatment with Revolution it is recommended at test be performed to ensure the optimum health of the dog.
