What does Bravecto do?
Bravecto provides treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides felis) infestations for 3 months, treatment and control of paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus) for 4 months and treatment and control of brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) for 8 weeks.
What is the active ingredient in Bravecto and how does it work?
Bravecto contains a chemical called fluralaner. Fluralaner acts by causing a dysfunction in special nervous system receptors of fleas and ticks causing them to become paralysed and ultimately die. These special nervous receptors are different in mammals and so Bravecto does not cause paralysis in these species.
How quickly does Bravecto work?
Bravecto provides effective control of fleas on dogs within 8 hours of administration and maintains persisent effectiveness against flea reinfestations for 3 months. It provides effective control of pre-existing infestations of paralysis tick within 24 hours of being given. During tick season daily searching for and removal of any ticks found is recommened.

Is it necessary to use additional insecticides to control flea stages in the environment? How does Bravecto work to control flea life stages in the environment?
Bravecto provides 3 months flea efficacy, a time period that covers the entire flea life cycle. It is not necessary to use additional insecticides to control flea stages in the environment. Fleas which have fed on a Bravecto treated dog cannot produce a new flea generation, and due to the long duration of efficacy, the flea life stages in the environment are also eliminated over time. Juvenile life stages (eggs, larvae, pupae) which are present in the environment will mature to adult fleas. Once these fleas get on the treated dog to start feeding, they are also killed before they can lay eggs.
Why is Bravecto's duration of efficacy against brown dog tick shorter than for paralysis tick?
Different species have different sensitivities to fluralaner. In studies the paralysis tick demonstrated greter susceptibility to fluralaner than other tick species.
Is Bravecto effective against other dog parasites such as mosquitoes and intestinal worms?
No. Bravecto is approved for control of fleas, paralysis ticks and brown dog tick only.
Can Bravecto be given to cats?
Bravecto is not approved for use in cats.

During clinical field testing, no interactions between Bravecto and routinely used medications was observed.
Can I use Bravecto to protect against fleas if I am not in a paralysis or brown dog tick area?
Yes. Bravecto provides extended protection against fleas with 3 months flea control follwoing a single tasty chew.
