What is Milbemax Cat?

Milbemax Cat is indicated for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal worms in cats including roundworm (Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina), hookworm (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) and tapeworm (Diplylidium caninum, Taenia spp.) In addition when given monthly Milbemax Cat will prevent heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) in cats over 6 weeks of age and 500g in bodyweight. 

What are the active ingredients in Milbemax Cat and how do they work?

Milbemax Cat contains praziquantel and milbemycin. Both ingredients act by disrupting the nervous system of the worms resulting in their paralysis and death.

How often is Milbemax Cat administered?

Milbemax Cat is administered orally. The frequency of admistration is dependent on the age of the kitten and what other parasite prevention products the kitten or cat is receiving. This is due to the fact that many products may already control several of the gastrointestinal worms that cats can be affected by.

As a general rule kittens should be wormed at 6, 8 and 12 weeks of age and then every 3 months.

For the prevention of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis), Milbemax Cat needs to be given every month. Before starting Milbemax Cat for the prevention of heartworm, a veterinarian should first confirm the cat is free from a heartworm infection.

From what age can Milbemax Cat be given?

Milbemax Cat is safe to use in kittens from 6 weeks of age.

How quickly does Milbemax Cat work?

Milbemax Cat starts working as soon as it is ingested. Worms, if present, may or may not appear in the droppings for up to 48 hours after treatment.

Is Milbemax Cat water fast?

As an oral medication that acts internally Mibemax Cat is not affected by washing, shampooing, swimming or contact with water.

Can I use Milbemax Cat all year-round?

Milbemax Cat should be administered all year-round to prevent gastrointestinal worms in cats. 

Can Milbemax Cat be used on pregnant or lactating queens? 

Milbemax Cat is safe to use in all cats well as pregnant and lactating queens. Milbemax should be given to queens prior to mating, to pregnant queens sometime in the last 10 days before queening and again 2 and 4 weeks after queening.

Can Milbemax Cat be used with other medications?  

Milbemax Cat may and is recommended to be used in conjunction with other treatments such as flea, tick and heartworm prevention.
