Activyl is indicated for the treatment of fleas (Ctenocephalides sp.) on dogs.

Activyl contains indoxacarb, a molecule with an innovative mode of action for flea control.

Activl is the first flea control product that works through a process of bioactivation. When a flea is exposed to Activyl on the skin of a dog it ingests the active ingredient. Enzymes in the flea's gut bioactivate the Activyl into a highly potent chemical that blocks the flea's nerve impulse transmissions resulting in its paralysis, inability to feed and ultimately death. Because Activyl's active ingredient is metabolised differently in insects versus mammals your pet dog is not affected at all because it only becomes active once in the flea.

To break the flea life cycle Activyl is applied directly to the skin every 4 weeks. By doing this Activyl ensures that fleas that jump onto your pet will stop feeding, become paralysed and die. In addition Activyl controls the immature stages of the flea's life cycle in the environment and so prevents reinfestation. Studies have shown that Activyl is still 100% effective at 30 days after application.

Activyl is safe to use in dogs and puppies over 1.5kg from 8 weeks of age.

The simple answer is no! Activyl moves through the oily coating of the dog's skin in exactly the same way in long and short-haired breeds. To provide the best care for your pet the correct product for your dog based on its weight must be used though.

Activyl starts killing fleas within 8 hours and at 12 hours after application 90% of fleas are dead. Importantly this speed of kill is maintained for a full month.

Activyl has been tested in dogs to make sure it is not easily rinsed or washed off. It is quick drying and it remains effective after shampooing and swimming. Bathing your pet is not required prior to applying Activyl however your pet should not be allowed to swim or be shampooed within 48 hours after treatment.

Activyl can be used in the management of pets with very itchy and inflammed skin due to flea bites - also known as flea allergy dermatitis.

Fleas are often a year-round problem and so Activyl should be applied every 4 weeks throughout the year.

No information is available on the safety of Activyl in breeding dogs of either sex, or pregnant and lactating bitches.

Following application of Activyl there may be a transient white, powdery (sometimes greasy) residue visible at the application site after the product has been absorbed. This eside is normal and will generally resolve within a couple of days after administration.
